1st International Workshop on Infrared Plasma Spectroscopy

Organized by the INP Greifswald and the IfP, University of Greifswald
Greifswald, Germany, June 14 – 16 2006

Dear colleagues
With this final announcement, we would like to give you some more detailed information on the 1st International Workshop on Infrared Plasma Spectroscopy (IPS2006). The Workshop is organized by the INP Greifswald in cooperation with the Institute of Physics (IfP), University of Greifswald and will take place from Wednesday 14th to Friday 16th June, 2006, in the INP in the town of Greifswald, Germany.

Scientific program
This Workshop is the first conference which brings together physicists and chemists from different laboratories who are applying spectroscopic methods in the infrared spectral region for investigating gas discharges. This is an important and fruitful opportunity to meet and discuss with the leading scientists in this field. The scientific program covers all modern aspects of Infrared Plasma Spectroscopy connecting fundamental research with industrial applications. The main topics of the Workshop include the different kinds of spectroscopic methods used in the infrared region, like tuneable diode laser absorption spectroscopy, and their various applications for diagnostics of all kinds of gas discharges.
There will be two oral sessions on Thursday and Friday forenoon and a poster presentation on Thursday afternoon. The complete scientific program will take place in the "Grosse Staffel" in the 4th floor of the INP. For more detail, please see the schedule and the timetable.

Registration
Participants should expect to arrive at the hotel on Wednesday, June 14, not later than 6 p.m. A registration desk will be set up in the foyer of the Parkhotel from 4.p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. The workshop will start with a welcome reception in the historical brewery cellar of the "Alter Fritz" in the main town square on Wednesday evening. There will be bus transfer from the Hotel to the restaurant in the city centre and back, departing from the hotel at 6:30 p.m. It will be possible to register at the welcome reception or alternatively on Thursday morning.

Venue
The workshop will be held in the INP Greifswald, which is a 10 minutes walk from the Parkhotel and 15 minutes from Greifswald's city centre.

    Workshop address:

    INP Greifswald
    Friedrich- Ludwig- Jahn- Str. 19
    D- 17489 Greifswald
    Phone: +49 3834 554 300
    Fax: +49 3834 554 301

Catering
The registration fee includes all food and drinks at the welcome reception, the conference dinner, the workshop breaks and the buffet lunches. Please note that the workshop officially ends on Friday afternoon after the boat trip, and so no dinner is provided for this evening.

Industrial Exhibition & Sponsors
A small industrial exhibition will take place on Thursday afternoon (Jun 15th 2006) after the lunch break in the "Kleine Staffel" of the INP Greifswald. The following companies will be displaying their products and supporting the Workshop

Sailing Tour
The IPS 2006 workshop will end with a sailing tour on board the historic gaff schooner sailing ship "Solvang" on the Greifswalder Bodden on Friday afternoon. This will give ample opportunities to communicate with the other participants and to discuss new ideas and future scientific work.
Please note, that it might be windy and a bit colder on board on the open sea. While June is normally one of the best months of the year it is possible to have light rain on the Bodden. So, it would be appropriate to be prepared for some wind and weather for the sailing tour.

Transportation
Bus transfers will be provided for the events of the IPS 2006 workshop. In detail these are:
  • for the welcome reception: from the hotel to the city centre and back,
       departing 6:30 p.m., June 14,

  • for the workshop dinner: from the INP / hotel to the scenic fishing village of Wieck and back to the hotel

  • for the sailing tour: from the INP to Wieck, near the berth of the sailing ship and from the Harbour Museum near the city centre to the hotel and to the railway station

Travel Information
Conference participants arriving by air should fly to the airports of Berlin or Hamburg. From there Greifswald can be reached by train or car. A detailed timetable can be obtained from the Travelservice of the Deutsche Bahn.
Please use a taxi to get from the main train station to the hotel. There is a bus stop nearby the Parkhotel (Line No. 4, Bus stop "Makarenkostrasse") but it is ca. 200 m away from the hotel and the central bus station in front of the main train station is a big construction sight. More detail on Greifswald's public transportation is linked here:
An online map of the city of Greifswald you can find here:
The fastest way to reach Greifswald by car is from Berlin via the Autobahn A10 / A11 / A20 and from Hamburg via A1 / A20.
