Life in the University and Hanseatic City of Greifswald
Greifswald is a modern university and science location – and one of the youngest cities in East Germany. Thanks to the 12,000 students attending one of the oldest universities in Germany, the city with a total of 60,000 inhabitants, ensures a lively, intellectual and exuberant atmosphere. After all there is good reason why it is said of Greifswald that it is a university with a city. The innovative spirit also benefits approximately 70 scientific facilities, research institutions and companies – for example next to our Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology, there is the Federal Research Institute for Animal Health and the Max Planck Ancillary Institute for Plasma Physics.
The outstanding medical infrastructure, the numerous educational offerings, the innovative concepts for development of the family-friendly city, Greifswald, are indicators of the attraction of the city as a place to live and work.
